VN obviously parodies Akhmatova in PNIN, as we all know, and in his earlier
Berlin reviews of Russian emigre women poets he always blamed them for
imitating Akhmatova too much. Akhmatova was apparently incensed by his
parody in PNIN. I don't remember any direct statement of Nabokov's re
Akhmatova but I would conclude, from all the indirect evidence, that he
did not care for her much. I could suggest further that he usually did not
care for women poets and writers in general but he did make exceptions:
he did, overall, like Tsvetaeva, for example. Galya Diment
