<sweeney@holycross.edu> for catching and correcting my slip.

Don, don't you mean "Stanislaw" Lem? Beth

EDITOR's COMMENT. Instead of correcting my errors individually, I am
thinking of putting them into a monthly megabyte digest.

Yesterday's _Los Angeles Times Book Review_ (Spet. 26, 1999, p. 4) carries
Susan Griffin's review of Susan Bordo's _THE MALE BODY. A New Look at Men
in Public and Private_. The reviewer's generally positive comments also
include...
"An entire chapter on Nabokov's 'Lolita, for example, which
contains a lengthy comparison of Kubrick's and Adrian Lyne's film
versions, and which seems oddly disconnected to the rest of the work,.
attempts but ultimately fails to connect a consideration of sexual abuse
of children and its motivations to the social constructions of masculinity
she has elucidated earlier. In the end, consideraing the gravity of this
issue, her discussion seems superficial and almost light."
