Lolita play in Milan (fwd)

The French newspaper Liberation has a laudatory article by Mathilde
La Bardonnie about a stage version of "Lolita" now playing in Milan
(Liberation, 28 Fevrier, p. 40). According to the article, the production
is a "virtuoso" adaptation by Luca Ronconi of VN's screenplay. The emphasis
is on the words and their play; drop-down movie screens etc. apparently
provide versions of events. Lolita speaks in "American" which is
translated by another actress onstage into Italian. According to the
article, this other actress "in the epilogue becomes Lolita in her turn".
The production runs more than four hours.
For those in the neighborhood, the production is in the Stanza
Strehler of the famous Piccolo Teatro in Milan until 4 March (telephone 39
02 72 333 222). One caveat: in the photograph accompanying the article, the
actresses playing Lolita and her mother appear to be about the same age,
which could be distracting.

Cheers.
