Subject
Query: The Assistant Producer and That in Aleppo Once]
Date
Body
------------------
First of all let me say hello to everyone, since this is my first
posting on
this group. I have 2 questions:
1.I see that the question has been posted once already (in 1997) but
there
seems to have been no answer: Can anyone tell me who the "Louise von
Lenz"
of "The Assistant Producer" was? I have vainly searched through
admirable
encyclopedias and have come up with nothing that makes sense.
2. Certain phrases in "That in Aleppo Once..." are italicized ("The
time,
the place, the torture. Her fan, her gloves, her mask." and "Yet the
pity of
it.") which seems to suggest that they are quotations. Where from?
Obviously
THESE don't come from "Othello"...
Perhaps I could find the answers to these questions easily enough, if
not
for the fact that I live in Poland and neither "A Small Alpine Form" nor
studies in periodicals (I know there was something on "The Assistant
Producer" in The Nabokovian, XXII) are available to me.
I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.
