Subject
Nabokov Bibliography: Chekhov Press editions
Date
Body
During the years when VN's work could not appear in his homeland, the CHekhov Publishing House in New York put out three of his works in 1952-56
(with CIA funding): the first full text of DAR (The Gift); the story collection Vesna in v Fial'te (Spring in Fialta); and the expanded Russian translation of VN autobiography. Although these texts are now more cheaply available in indigenous Russian editions, the now rare Chekhov editions are being offered by "GLOBUS, A Slavic Bookstore" in San Francisco at $25 for DAR and $20 for the other two.

These are collectors items. Many American Slavists (including myself), Russian emigres, and Soviet underground readers first read the Russian VN in these paper editions.

GLOBUS may be contacted at globus@jps.net & http://www.jps.net/globus/globus.htm.
