I read this sentence to say that the dreaming mind is irrational; yet
with some primitive intents muddling in the detritus.

Agree. Same judgment: sputter = colluvia.

N. and Freud agreed in their observations on the structure of dreams.
The difference was Freud's emphasis on the explicative value of the
"animal cunning" and the occasional gem stones to be found in the
colluvium.

"Colluvia' (plural of 'colluvium' id defined as......." Of course,
Freud was unable to comment on the wise vagaries of the fingers on the
typing keyboard.
