In response to Dane Gill's query re "organs of locomotion" in ADA ...
Looking up the word 'foot' in my 1970's Shorter Oxford dictionary,
I see that one of the definitions given is the 'organ of locomotion'
of certain invertebrates. VN was (I would hazard) taking this technical
phrase from his scientific studies.
