It has just occurred to me that there is quite a resemblance between the
dream scene that closes 'Details of a Sunset' in which Mark Standfuss
hallucinates that he has arrived home to his fiancee and that towards
the end of 'The Gift', where the hero dreams that he makes his way home
(?) through
the dark Berlin streets and meets his father. There are probably many
more parallels between these early stories set in Berlin and the novels.
