Fwd: Humbert's guilt etc.

Hello,

I am sorry also to be joining the very end of the interesting thread
spun out from Andrew's comments. When I once asked Stephen Schiff why
his screenplay didn't show Humbert trying to drug Dolores in order to
molest her while she slept, he replied that that would have made the
film "too dark." I explore ways in which Humbert stages his confession
as a mock trial (a circumstance that Andrew mentions) in my essay on
"Executing Sentences in Lolita and the Law" (reprinted on Zembla).
