Subject
Bart/beard allusions in Pnin and Lolita

Dear List,

While snowbound in Patagonia I began to re-read "Pnin" ( which I'd
pocketted
instead of "Ada") and I was reminded that Victor Wind studied at
St.Bartholomew's - St. Bart's for short - while he was twelve. Lolita,
also
twelve (or was she then a little older?), attended Beardsley. Bart, in

German, means "beard" ( and Dr. Eric Wind, his father, was German
speaking).
Could VN have suggested some kind of link bt. Victor and Lolita by the
"Bart/beard" reference? There was a hint about young Victor being looked

after by an "old lesbian" ( which I could not place or understand).
