[EDNOTE. Happy Birthday, Tom!]
Dear Editors and List,
Today is my birthday, and I am so chuffed about the present I got
myself.
There are several tattered paperbacks of Pale Fire lying about the
house,
and I thought I'd get something more permanent. For $8 I found a nice
hardback
edition on Ebay -- Everyman's Library, with a foreword by Rorty and a
shiny red ribbon
place marker. I had it bound in dark blue leather. The bookbinder wanted
to block the title on the spine in gold, but I told him silver would be
more appropriate. I'm having such a happy day.
