Dear Jansy (and all)

As always, VN suggests seemingly contradictory views of signifiers, from
the revelatory "rapist" in "therapist," as considered by Humbert, to the
cyclical and ultimately meaningless indexing of "word golf" in Pale
Fire, which more closely adheres to Saussure's sense of signifiers.

It's sort of phenomenological in the end, I think--a thought which
coincides kind of nicely with VN's recurring fascination with the
subjectivity of perception.
