During a chat while we were waiting to go onstage to perform "Dear
Bunny, Dear Volodya," my good friend William Buckley told me exactly why
the Postage Stamp Committee had rejected the proposal to issue a stamp
honoring VN: "Because of Lolita." There were also those who were awarded
a stamp simply by popular acclaim, among them Elvis Presley, who at the
time was having a sexual romp with his fifteen-year-old wife-to-be, and
various other "personalities" from the entertainment industry.
