Nabokov's story "Nezhit'" (1921) contains a phrase:

"Golos ego slovno oslepil menja ..."

http://www.lib.ru/NABOKOW/nezhit.txt

"slovno" means roughly "like", "as if", "as though", "as it were." It
stems from the root "slovo" meaning "word."
