Dear List,

I recently received an admonition from Dmitri Nabokov on the subject "Conjuror" :
THAT'S JUST AS WELL, JANSY -- LEAVE IT AT THAT, AND LET NABOKOV DO THE CONJURING.

Now, on the matter of Woolworth's Lolita Bed we got another interesting comment: MY FATHER'S SHADE WISHES HAPPY TOSSING AND TURNING, ESPECIALLY TO PARENTS NAMED HUMBERT AND CHARLOTTE.

I can only deduce that Nabokov's "shade" and "conjurors" are among us, together with "devices, like elves or gnomes"...
After debating with myself if I should silently and prudently just sit and watch the unfolding spectacle, I concluded that I might as well venture into what John Rea described as "sheer speckulations" to consider if we are, all of us, being invited to share in the (leaking) overall plot of TOOL!
Here is what I underlined from Shrayer's quotes of Khodasevich:
" ...Sirin becomes predominantly the artist of form, of literary device...Sirin not only masks or hides his devices,...but rather reveals them like a conjurer...Here, I feel, lies the key to Sirin. His works are inhabited not only by dramatis personae, but also countless devices which - like elves or gnomes- ...carry out enormous tasks.. I actually think, or am almost sure that Sirin...will one day open up and present us with a ruthless satirical portrayal of a writer..."
