In 1923, Nabokov wrote in his Russian poem "Razmery" ("The Meters", see below), dedicated to Gleb Struve
(I do not know if it has been translated so I just dub it here, sorry):
Chto khochesh' ty? Chtob stih tvoj govoril,
Povestvoval? - vot mernyj amfibrakhij...
A khochesh' pet' - v eolovom razmakhe
Anapesta - zvon lyuten i vetril.
(What do you want? For your verse to talk,
To tell a story - here is the cadent amphibrach...
And if you wish to sing - in the Aeolian sweep
Of anapest - the ring of lutes and sails,...)
Etc., with the "triumphant, singing, talking iambus!" crowning the list.
